Branching Structures

A Bath-Paris Meeting

IHP (Paris), 15-16 September 2011

Overview

The purpose of this workshop is to explore and expose some of the many recent developments in a broad family of stochastic processes which exhibit branching phenomena. These include superprocesses, continuous state branching processes, coalescent processes, fragmentation processes, processes that live on Galton-Watson trees and others. Particular attention will be paid to the modern mathematical point of view which focuses on their structural commonality, expressed through certain mathematical 'genealogical' structures as well spatial considerations. Moreover, the meeting will aim to expose the popularity of stochastic models with branching structure through their application in physics, biology and genetics.
